About Me
Sydney-based 521 Productions is one of Australia's newest and most dynamic video production companies - known for consistently producing outstanding images - on time and on budget.
521 is headed by award-winning cameraman David Childs, a specialist in news, current affairs, documentary, reality lifestyle and corporate and television. Childs boasts an international career that has seen him shooting for the BBC at one end of the world to TV3 New Zealand at the other. The bulk of his work has been within Australia working for the country's highest rating network Channel Seven - holding senior positions first with the News then Current Affairs divisions.
He's shot earthquakes in Indonesia and New Zealand, terrorist bombings in London, bushfires in Sydney, orphanages in Cambodia, jungles in Papua New Guinea and open cut mines in the Pilbara. In short, he's produced breathtaking pictures in the most testing conditions imaginable.
But it hasn't all been action and adventure: much of his time in current affairs has been spent perfecting the art of lighting cinematography: interviews, portraiture, macro photography on products and packaging, hidden cameras, dollies, jibs and cranes - he has done it all.
In fact, chances are, you are already familiar with his work. David Childs' camera has been one of those behind some of the most successful programs on television - ‘RBT’ (Channel 9), Sunday Night, Seven News, Today Tonight, Sunrise, Sydney Weekender (Channel 7), Wag Nation (Fox 8), The 7PM Project (Channel 10). Plus multiple programs on the BBC, ITV, LWT, Gillette World Sport (UK) and TV3 New Zealand. And his corporate client list has been growing from the moment the company was established.
His work has been recognised multiple times by the Australian Cinematographers Society - Australia's premier alliance for professional camera operators. He's won awards at both State and National level, but in 2004 was presented with the Society's highest prize, the prestigious Golden Tripod.
521 Productions uses Sony XDCAM F800 High Definition cameras and of course offers pro-standard lighting kits and a full suite of professional sound and lens components. The video output can be configured and formatted to any requirement on the client's request. Additional crew can also be sourced and provided to suit any job. And we can transport you or your team in the style and comfort of a brand new, purpose-rigged, 6-seat iLoad van.
